The Beast & Bird Fall - Beef Fest will be held on October 20th, 5pm-8pm at Celebration Park (105 W 2nd St, Vinton, IA 52349)Benton County Conservation will be at Beef Fest 2023 at Celebration Park! Beast & Bird and Antonio’s Mexican Grill will be serving food. McBrides Mobile Taps will have drinks. BCC will be offering campfire desserts, and other activities for kids.

Hawkeye Community College to Host Women's Leadership & Empowerment Conference

Hawkeye Community College will host the Women’s Leadership and Empowerment Conference on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in Tama Hall on Hawkeye’s Main Campus, 1501 E. Orange Rd, Waterloo, Iowa.Focused on the theme of “Believe, Balance, Build,” the conference will feature two keynote presentations and several breakout sessions on navigating burnout; work-life integration; changing careers; and balancing career, family, and community.

Car Day, Sunday, October 22 at Center Point Museum Depot

A talk will be given by Marion historian David Wendell.  “Clash of the Titans: Walter Chrysler and Henry Ford in Iowa,” will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22. The event is free and the public is invited. There will be model cars on display in the Museum and real cars in the parking lot. The museum is located at 700 E. Washington St.

Vinton-Shellsburg to begin raising money through Sweats for Vets fundraiser

Click for a video about the eventJoin us to raise money for local Veterans! Last year we raised $2,500. On the listed Wednesdays, wear sweats to work for $3 per day. The money will be presented to a local Veterans group at our all-district assembly on the morning of Friday, November 10th.

We will be making jar candles with a fun twist. Participants must be 10 years of age or older to participate. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Hidden in Plain Sight coming to Garrison, October 2

Garrison Emergency Services and the Benton County Sheriff's Department will be partnering to bring an interactive drug education program to Garrison. Parents should attend this program. Tuesday, October 3, at 7:00 p.m. the program will begin. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.The program will share signs of drug or alcohol abuse and give tips about what a parent should say in the situation.

Come to the Benton County Nature Center to enjoy, "Nature at Night" on October 18th at 8:00pm.Learn about nocturnal animals and take a short hike to observe wildlife, including owl calling. There will be a Chili Cook-Off & Bake Sale on October 7 from 12-3 pm at the Hannen Lake Park - White Oak Shelter (East). Chili entry fee $20/recipe, Free to enjoy samples!Bring your best chili to enter into the contest, or come and enjoy all the delicious chili presented! Competition entrance fee is $20/recipe (limit 1 per person). Judging categories are: smoked chili, white chili, and classic chili.
